“Street Signs as
Sources of History”
July to August
2012
(Unang
Yugto ng Pagdalumat sa Kasaysayan)
-----------------------
Introduction
History in the
Philippines is the heart for the development of human identity. Its definition
encompasses not only the people and events that transpired in the past. It also
includes the impact (in various aspects) of these to the Filipinos and the
nation.
Learning
history as a subject is not limited at school or books found in the library.
The information and values embedded to it can be acquired in physical objects
and places. Examples of this category which shall also be used as a point of
communicating history to people are the street signs. The area of choice is
Project 4 in Quezon City.
The
campaign program, Kalinangan ng Kaalaman sa Kasaysayan (KKK) will serve as the
pilot tool in communicating history to Project 4’s youth residents. The KKK’s
objectives are to be carried out through various activities (e.g. educational
tours, academic contests, dramatization of heroes’ lives, etc.). It is hoped
that the participants would serve as vehicles too in sharing and disseminating
history to other people.
